While at Georgetown, Carty received a Pro Bono Pledge Certificate for charitable work undertaken in the Washington, D.C. area. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics (Finance Concentration) from the University of Virginia. Carty is a member of the Alabama State Bar, the South Carolina State Bar, Charleston County Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He and his wife, Katherine, live in Charleston with their chocolate lab, Banks.
